Usage Guidelines

All our products are aromatherapist formulated with cautionary recommendations for infants, children, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and we dilute essential oils accordingly. Below are some quick reference charts to help you navigate our product range.

It is generally not advised to use essential oils on infants under three months of age, so the only products we recommend using in this age range are those that do not contain essential oils.

Neonatal skin does not mature until three months old and is far more sensitive and absorbent to essential oils. The skin is much thinner and, if premature, up to 2.5 times more permeable than adult skin, thus increasing the risk of sensitisation. Infants also have a reduced metabolic capacity and renal function, so their ability to clear substances from their bodies is not comparable to that of adults and is thus impaired.

Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts of plant materials, and in the wrong dosages, incorrect methods of application, or in the wrong hands, they can have negative consequences.

As with any product, a patch test is recommended before use, and if irritation occurs, please discontinue use. Please, always keep our products out of reach of curious little hands. If any product is internally consumed, please call NZ National Poisons Centre on 0800 764 766. If you reside outside of NZ, please call your local equivalent.
