All about the nipples

Bombarded with nipple creams and cannot decide which one?

Breastfeeding can be tough sometimes. We are highly aware of the growing number of nipple creams on the market, which is excellent for competition and choices; however, how on earth do you select which one?

Firstly, our Nipple Nectar contains all food-safe (and grade) ingredients so no need to wash off before nursing. It is safe for bubs to ingest if that does happen and increases the ease of use for Mumma.

It does not contain beeswax. We have selected candelilla wax instead. Heard of the restrictions of not giving infants under one honey? It is due to this reason we have not included beeswax.* Vegan-friendly for the win! Candelilla is a plant wax found in many of our foodstuffs and is Generally Recognised As Safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We have to include some form of wax to hold the formulation together, so it is not a liquid mess.

No essential oils. Despite the popular press, ingestion of essential oils is not recommended, unless under the supervision of a certified aromatherapist. Sorry to burst your bubble but your local 'wellness advocate' will probably not be a certified aromatherapist. You will find many aromatherapists will not advise internal use, let alone for our precious infants.

No lanolin content. What is the deal with is? It is a yellow fat derived from domesticated sheep wool. Lanolin can contain pesticides and other harmful ingredients, dependant on how refined and purified it is. It can also irritate sensitive skin and cause allergic reactions. The jury still seems to be out on the effectiveness of lanolin as well.

How does it heal then? It contains the incredibly nourishing and moisturising shea butter from the shea tree in West Africa. It has found to have anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties, which helps fight off yeast. Yes, a common issue while breastfeeding. We use organic and unrefined, which means only the best for your nipples! The formulation also contains organic extra virgin olive oil infused with three amazing organic healing herbs from the garden. EVOO promotes healthy skin regeneration, helps to fight off infection & thrush. The herbs are marshmallow root, calendula petals and Chamomile flower. All of which are medicinal plants used for centuries for their healing, germ-fighting and anti-inflammatory phytochemicals. This infusion sits for weeks to draw out the herbal goodness before strained and lovingly made into the final product - our Nipple Nectar to heal and protect the gateway to your babies food source.

*Infants should not ingest bee products under the age of 1 due to spores of a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum, which can germinate in a baby's immature digestive system and cause infant botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness.
